Actor Rowan Atkinson loves to play the role of Mr. Bean globally, but he says he portrays the character as stressful and boring. The actor, 65, is making an animated film based on a popular character, but says he “doesn’t like the weight of responsibility”, reports say. Atkins played the title role in the hit series from 1990 to 1995. He also starred in the Bean Movie in 1997 and Mr. Bean’s Holiday in 2007.
“After creating an animated TV series, we’re now at the bottom of making an animated movie for Mr. Bean – it’s easier for me to visually play a character with sound.”
He added, “I don’t enjoy playing it much. The weight of responsibility is not pleasant. I find it stressful and boring and I look forward to its end.” He admitted that with the possible exception of Blackdader – “he doesn’t like the process of making anything, because the responsibility of making that series funny was on many shoulders, not just mine”.
Johnny the English actor is not surprised about the success of his character. “I’ve never been surprised by Mr. Bean’s success. It’s basically funny to see an adult behave childishly without remote awareness of his incompetence. The fact is that comedy has been successful internationally instead of visually,” he said. Atkinson wrote and starred in Blackdard between 1983 and 1989, and said he was “definitely not impossible” about being the most optimistic about the resurrection.
