‘End of an era’: Bollywood mourns Soumitra Chatterjee’s death

Bollywood on Sunday mourned the demise of veteran Bengali actor and Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner Soumitra Chatterjee. Expressing condolences to the actor’s family at the end of Twitter, actor Anil Kapoor called him a “legend and inspiration”.

Paresh Rawal also paid an emotional tribute to Chatterjee and tweeted, “Soumitra Chatterjee. Self-influenced actor. Om Shanti.”

Sharing a picture of the film’s producers Satyajit Ray and Chatterjee, veteran actor Raj Babbar wrote on Twitter in Hindi: “Soumitra Chatterjee was a legendary actor who passed away today. He started his career with Satyajit Ray’s film ‘Apur Sansar’. An award like the Saheb Phalke Award is an example of his acting skills and his ease in delivering them. He forgets everything when presenting the characters.

Randeep Hooda termed the actor’s demise as ‘the end of an era’. He tweeted, “End of an era .. RIP Legend #Saumitra Chatterjee (with hand joined emojis)

Richa Chatterjee also mourned Chatterjee’s demise and shared an old photo of him with his frequent colleague Satyajit Ray. He tweeted, “RIP Soumitra Chatterjee! You live forever for your work! Thanks for the movies. A big, big loss to the world of cinema and art.”

Reacting to the news, Manoj Bajpayee tweeted, “Tragic loss !! Keep calm sir Your contribution to Indian cinema will always be remembered and inspire future generations! ”

Rahul Bose also shared a picture of himself throwing with Chatterjee on Instagram and wrote a long note. His note reads, “There was a time when I went to #Satyajit’s films and that Saumitrada was in most of them. So working with him at # 15 Park Avenue felt surreal. Needless to say, I kept asking questions about cinema, Ray, style of work etc. He answered everything with generosity and warmth. Relax peacefully, Soumitrada. # Soumitra Chatterjee (Naturally he is also છબી Concona in the image. Probably ably from 15 Park’s post release functions). “

Chatterjee, 85, died Sunday afternoon. He was admitted to Belle Vs Hospital in Kolkata and was admitted to the ICU after testing positive for COVID-19. It was later tested negative. Iconic Bengali actor and Dada Saheb Phalke was known for collaborating with award winning Chatterjee Scar winning film director Satyajit Ray.
